HUNTINGTON BEACH, California - This past weekend was buzzing in Huntington Beach with surfers in both the amateur and professional ranks gathering for the Jack’s Surfboards Pro and the NSSA Explorer events.

For the pros, San Clemente’s own Kevin Schulz came away with the QS 1,500-level event win, his first ever, and $10k. Riding a custom Dozer board model, Kevin was on fire the entire day surfing a total of 5 heats and making the best of the windy conditions on-hand.

"It's just so close to home, I grew up surfing here throughout all the NSSA, and to win against the field that was here is just insane," noted Schulz. "I couldn't even dream of winning this thing. I feel like I didn't peak until the Final and those leading up to it were pretty stressful, knowing I wasn't doing my best surfing. But, now I've got some points going and I want to keep this going to the bigger events, and hopefully start getting into those QS 6,000s by the cutoff."

Schulz now sits in the No. 40 spot on the QS rankings.

Ella McCaffray Lights Up NSSA HB Explorer Event

On the opposite site of the pier the NSSA HB Explorer event was taking place and San Diego’s Ella McCaffray was making a statement. Riding her Model 8 board, Ella won not one, but two divisions even earning her very first 10-point ride in the final. Winning the Explorer Womens & Girls divisions, Ella officially made the statement that she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Congrats to both Ella and Kevin on their dominating wins over the weekend!
