This board is just great. Period. The outline and Venturi bottom make it super fast but the step tail allows it to still be performance-y when you want it to be. Great float and paddle power but still easy to maneuver when you want it to be. All the fun attributes of a fish but all the fun attributes of a more performance-y board, too, all in one great board. Great in knee high slop, great in shoulder high glassy perfection. The Heckerl does it all, including kill the rest of your quiver. Go and get one now with a five fin boxes and you will never look back.
I have a 5'6" Ive had for about a year and love it. My wife ordered a 5'2" a few months ago and we were constantly fighting about who gets to ride it so I ordered myself a 5'3" (5'8" 150lbs). This board COMES ALIVE in in smaller sizes! I have a fairly thorough quiver with about 10 boards and I just keep going back to the Heckler. It just goes so damn good. Excellent rail game, great paddler, gets around whitewater and slices through slow sections like a hot knife though butter. I was going to order stock dims but Rusty took my weight and height and tweaked it a hair. Came out PERFECT. I almost said just go with stock but glad I didn't. If you order custom let them do their thing with the dims they know what they're doing.
Not sure why it took me so many years to finally add a fish to my limited board options but I'm glad when I finally did it was a Heckler. The first several days here in SD after picking up the board have been 1-3' tops, conditions I'd normally resign to dragging out the longboard or just sitting out waiting for more swell. I've caught more small fun peelers in the past week than I could've counted in years. I'm 5'11" 190# and went pretty big by fish standards (bought a 6'4") and while I probably could've gotten away a few inches shorter I have zero regrets, it's awesome. Paddles and catches waves in small stuff way easier than my 6'4" thruster but it's super fast down the line and plenty maneuverable. Looking forward to trying it in bigger surf first chance I get. If you are on the fence just get one.
This is definitely the most versatile board I have owned. I had tried for years to get a board that would provide the speed of my beloved fish along with the ability to carve, hit the lip and move rail to rail with ease. I have surfed my Heckler regularly in 2-3 ft point-break, and it created speed easily and turned on a dime, not a restraint when trying to go more vertical. I can chase sections and anticipate maneuvers like never before. Accelerating and banking turns feel like effortless maneuvers, the response is amazing.
I recently surfed it in barreling overhead beach break, and it worked beautifully too. The refined nose met the vertical drops and walls cleanly, where fishes usually catch rail, and it rode the barrel without a hitch. This is the 1 board quiver I was looking for.
I ordered a 7ft 2in x 22 1/2 x 3 in torsion spring construction. Clint (shaper) was very helpful accomodating to my requests to customize some features, and the sales team was top notch too. I received a really nice looking board, great construction and in time.
